Ditch-bank explorations.

Mon Jul 20, 2009, 7:39 AM
So, I've been on vacation again, and taking pics with the new camera. Once again learning the limitations of the lenses. I'm going to need a telephoto and a macro right away. (I don't even have a case for it yet)
Got up yesterday at 5a.m. and headed out for a little excursion. Parked the car in a legal spot and started walking the ditch banks for the second time, this time with the new camera.
I was home by quarter to 10, parched, tired and with the most painful feet I've had in a while. Had the camera on the tripod and have decided to put some real padding on that beast. Also I'll have to start carrying a canteen.
I've found a spot to park I think for my next expedition along these ditch banks. It won't entail too much back-tracking of covered landscape. I intend to milk some images from these little used paths.
At the northern end, Albuquerque does a funny checkerboard thing with the suburb of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. Los Ranchos being an interesting enclave of wealthy estates and funky trailer parks. The trailers of course aren't anywhere near the beautiful and scenic Rio Grande Blvd., (or Drive perhaps?) which is tree lined and pleasant, punctuated by lawn sculptures and impressive estates.
For my part I enjoy seeing the unusual livestock these residents keep. In the past I've seen Llamas and Waterbuffalo, and yesterday i saw Alpacas, although the pics turned out poorly. (LENSES!)
So, what I'm hoping will be the last leg of this northern ditch-trek will or should bring me to the southern boundry of Sandia Pueblo's land. I'll wait for my feet to heal a little bit before venturing out again.
My brother and I both got bad sunburns up in Santa Fe last Thursday. Took some shots of a harp player on the plaza. We took the RailRunner commuter train from downtown Abq. and ended up with all-day bus passes for Santa Fe. I'm begining to think that high summer is perhaps not the best time to spend an entire day outdoors. (at least not without a hat)
So... kind of settling in with the new camera.

Our gratest power, it the power to choose. No one can take that away. We can decide what we think and who we are.
